The coffee producers
While women have always played an important role in coffee cultivation, men own the vast majority of coffee farms and control the profits from coffee production. The Cocafelol cooperative is working to make coffee production more equitable by empowering female coffee producers.
Through Cocafelol, women have access to training and professional development opportunities. The cooperative trains their members in best agricultural practices, and offer financial support for their members through loans for farm maintenance. They are also the first cooperative in Honduras to be carbon neutral. They achieved this in part thanks to the production of a biogas plant the cooperative constructed to produce biogas and bioethanol from plant waste.
